Personal development is never an easy task. But it can be way too simple if well managed, and can become fun at times too. Knowing the right thing to do to get you there is all you need to make it in becoming that person you want to be in the near or far future.

Pick up a new hobby. Beyond just your usual favorite hobbies, is there something new you can pick up? Any new sport you can learn? Learning something new requires you to stretch yourself in different aspects, whether physically, mentally or emotionally.

Overcome your fears. All of us have fears. Fear of uncertainty, fear of public speaking, fear of risk… All our fears keep us in the same position and prevent us from growing. Recognize that your fears reflect areas where you can grow.

Wake up early. Waking up early (say, 5-6am) has been acknowledged by many (Anthony Robbins, Robin Sharma, among other self-help gurus) to improve your productivity and your quality of life. I feel it’s because when you wake up early, your mindset is already set to continue the momentum and proactively live out the day. Get out of your comfort zone. Real growth comes with hard work and sweat. Being too comfortable doesn’t help us grow – it makes us stagnate. What is your comfort zone? Do you stay in most of the time? Do you keep to your own space when out with other people? Shake your routine up. Do something different. By exposing yourself to a new context, you’re literally growing as you learn to act in new circumstances.

Development, any form of development for that matter does not happen without prior planning; this is a fact you have to bear with if you are into personal development. And yes, planning in personal development really pays back, that is the positive side you can count on. It may take you a considerable amount of time planning for your personal development strategy, but its benefits are worth it.

The importance of planning ahead is multifold. One benefit is that you will be confronted with the (sometimes daunting) question where you want to go. It’s an important question that should not be overlooked. If you have no destination, then it doesn’t matter where you go. If it doesn’t matter where you go, then you will eventually stop walking as lying around is more comfortable.

But once you start writing down what you want to achieve, you will drastically increase your chances of becoming the person you want to be. I can tell you from my own personal experience that whenever I committed myself to thorough planning of realistic goals; I always managed to achieve what I wanted to accomplish. In one way or the other.

A well outlined plan is a great way to get started if you are serious about going all the way into personal development. This should feature a well outlined action list, motivational content and the basic part- getting to action.

Create Your Personal Growth Action List

The only logical place to start your personal development quest is with yourself. Start out with creating a list where you write down everything that you know you could be doing (but you’re currently not) that would have a positive impact on your life.

Get Highly Motivated

As your will-power to make these awesome changes in your life start to dwindle, you’ll need proper motivation to keep going.

Define and put into writing your personal vision and mission statements. Your vision will give you direction and serve as a source of power and inspiration.

Set your goals. Turn your personal growth actions into specific and measurable milestones. Make sure they have a deadline and are written in a present tense with action verbs.

Create a weekly action plan. Make sure to break your goals down into manageable pieces so that it’s easy for you to see the next small step forward as well as how far you’ve come.

Take Action

Here’s where most people will fail. They’ll think like this seems like a lot of hard work or perhaps that they’ll start later. And in the first case they’re right. But this isn’t hard work in the traditional sense, because this is FUN!

Setting your goals and stretching yourself to see how far you can go is an innate human desire and I promise that you’ll feel awesome as you start checking stuff off your list
